"I do not expect this to happen in the very near future, but I do believe that by 2045 machines will be able to do if not any work that humans can do, then a very significant fraction of the work that humans can do....Does the future need us? By this I mean to ask, if machines are capable of doing almost any work humans can do, what will humans do? I have been getting various answers to this question, but I find none satisfying."

- Moshe Y. Vardi, from The Consequences of Machine Intelligence, in The Atlantic.

That is like saying the legendary King Arthur is 'really' Cleopatra; all you have to do is to change Cleopatra's sex, nationality, period, temperament, moral character, and other details, and the resemblance becomes obvious."

"I always, always, always show up on time. When my camera crew arrives in the lobby for call time, I'm already there. That comes from years of working as a dishwasher, as a cook, as a chef - working as part of a team and understanding that if you can't show the respect to your co-workers and employers of at least showing up on time, then there is no need to investigate what else is good or bad about you. It's always the thing I looked for in my employees. It spoke of character and that's something you can't teach people. Skills you can teach, technique you can teach, but not character."

"There is a historical inevitability to all this, of course. The market economy means that your choices will be dictated by corporate forces and the tastes of the mass market: you may love family-run shoe stores and funky diners, but the body republic has cast its dollar vote with big box malls and national food chains, so that̢۪s what you will get. And the crowd has also chosen the automatic."

.When I think about kids watching a TV show like American Idol or The Voice, then they think, .Oh, OK, that.s how you become a musician, you stand in line for eight fucking hours with 800 people at a convention center and. then you sing your heart out for someone and then they tell you it.s not fuckin. good enough.. Can you imagine?. he implores. .It.s destroying the next generation of musicians! Musicians should go to a yard sale and buy and old fucking drum set and get in their garage and just suck. And get their friends to come in and they.ll suck, too. And then they.ll fucking start playing and they.ll have the best time they.ve ever had in their lives and then all of a sudden they.ll become Nirvana. Because that.s exactly what happened with Nirvana. Just a bunch of guys that had some shitty old instruments and they got together and started playing some noisy-ass shit, and they became the biggest band in the world. That can happen again! You don.t need a fucking computer or the internet or The Voice or American Idol.. . Dave Grohl (via blacktooth100)
