Quotation of the Day for September 1, 2013
"The dynamic where women are active in the workforce in most every occupation but still do the lion's share of chores at home has been called the "second shift" - their second work shift of the day.
"Perhaps one explanation why men don't measure up to women is how chores are measured. A U.S. survey on which partner does "core chores" did not include such things as home repairs, mowing the lawn, snow shovelling and gardening.
"Is barbecuing a chore? Or lifting a window air conditioner up a flight of stairs? Or killing every manner of scary bug whenever one rears its wife-eating head?
"Men would like to think so, but these are episodic labours, not daily duties. (And if you can drink a beer while doing it - i.e. grilling a steak - it probably isn't much of a chore.)"
- Jon Wells, in the article "Is Labour Day still every day for women at home?"
